Are Portuguese Water Dogs really hypo-allergenic?Yes, Portuguese Water Dogs are often considered to be hypoallergenic. They have a non-shedding, curly or wavy coat that produces less dander compared to other dog breeds. Dander, which is made up of dead skin cells, is a common allergen that can trigger allergies in some individuals. While no dog breed is completely hypoallergenic, Portuguese Water Dogs are known to produce fewer allergens, making them a potential option for individuals with allergies. However, it's important to note that individual reactions to allergens can vary, so it's recommended for allergic individuals to spend time with a Portuguese Water Dog before bringing one into their home to ensure compatibility. Regular grooming and proper hygiene practices can also help minimize allergens in the living environment.
